Our Winter Class schedule is ready and we have several new classes that will be offered, along with a brand new Thimbleberries Quilt Club and Jo Morton Club. We are pleased to announce we will be offering Professional Sharpening Services by Jack Swayner, for all your scissors. Once a month, Jack will bring dropped-off scissors to his home for professional sharpening and return them to the shop. Dates when scissors will be picked up for sharpening will be January 20, February 17, March 16, April 20, 2012. Scissors will be sharpened and returned to the shop the following week after these dates. Scissor sharpening rate is $1.00 per inch for the overall length of the scissors. Payement must be made when the scissors are dropped off for sharpening. If you would like to leave scissors for sharpening, please place them in a zip-lock bag.

Quilting by the Yard is proud to announce that we are participating in the One Million Pillowcase Challenge sponsored by American Patchwork and Quilting. Over 55,000 pillowcases have been collected across the country by participating quilt shops and their customers. The goal is to collect and donate one million pillowcases over the year!
If you would like to participate in the One Million Pillowcase Challenge, please make a pillowcase with pre-washed fabrics suitable for a child and drop it off at Quilting by the Yard. We will be giving all donated pillowcases to either the ConKerr Cancer organization (pillowcases will be delivered to the Children's Medical Hospital in Hartford) or The Hole in the Wall Gang camp. If you would like to donate for the ConKerr Cancer organization, please wash the pillowcase when finished and place in a quart size ziplock bag for the protection of the oncology children.
To date, we have collected over 500 children's pillowcases and we would like to thank all those who have participated for their kindness. We will give you an update every month for all the collected pillowcases.
